Hike to the Plassen (1953m)

The distinctive-looking Plassen is located in the eastern region of the Gosautal. It marks the border to Hallstatt which leeds into the „Salzberg“ through the galleries.
The one-day hike can be quite exhausting. It covers an altitude of 1300 metres:

Time to the Rossalm: 2-2.5 hours
45 minutes to the Schreieralm (1389m)
90 minutes to the peak
Journey back down – 4 hours
Hiking skills requested!

You can drive your bike up to the Schreieralm. The way is 16 km long. The marked road to the Plassen starts in the Gosau Vordertal. At first you go up the forest street and soon the way takes you through the shady woods.

2 to 2.5 hours later you will reach the Rossalm. 3 km further along the forest street will bring you to the Schreieralm (1389m).
Now the path goes up steeply over a meadow, along the marked way constantly. After 20 minutes hiking the path meets another trail to Hallstatt. You will go through a cirque on the right towards the Plassen. Again you will have to manage a steep ascent up an alpine meadow. This part of the trail is pretty slippery most of the time! Soon you will be able to regcognize the cross on the summit of the mountain. The rest of your hike will take you over alpine pastures right to your goal in 20 minutes. A unique and astonishing vista on a little bench will reward every hiker! Down in the valley lies Gosau surrounded by ist mountains. On the other side you will see the Hallstättersee and finally above all rises King Dachstein.
