Walk to the Gamsfeld, Russbach at the Pass Gschütt

The Gamsfeld in Russbach
View to the Gosaukamm and down to the valley of Russbach

Hike from Russbach, past the Traunwaldalm to the Gamsfeld, 2058 metres above the sea level. Time for walking amounts about three hours with an altitude of 1200 metres.
The journey back down takes you past the Angerkaralm, the Rinnbergalm, back to Rußbach in about two and a half hours.
In the centre of the town Russbach a street brings you to the Rinnbergalm. Please follow this route and park you car at the sign which shows a ban on driving. There are quite a few parking places to use. Turn right on the asphaltic road. Then you will come to a marker after ten minutes. Please follow the signpost number 206. The wide road guides you through the woods at first. Then your way will lead you through alpine meadows with blossoming flowers and a gorgeous view to the Traunwaldalm which you will reach in one hour. Shortly before you get to the last hut a small path sidelines directly to the peak, leading you over a great meadow. Please beware of the path markers on the stones!
From now on your way will get quite steep, through Latschen and past alpine meadows. Early birds will be able to enjoy shadows hanging over the slopes. But soon the sun will cover the whole area. During your rest you will be able to enjoy the view down to Russbach, further to the Gosaukamm and the Dachstein. If you are lucky you could spy chamois along your way.

View from the pinnacle to the valley of Gosau, the Gosaukamm and the Dachstein

Shortly before you reach the pinnacle the guidepost points down to the Angerkaralm. From here there are only ten minutes to go through nice alpine area until you get to the summit cross. Now that you are at the peak you can see the Wolfgangsee and the Schafberg lying ahead of you. The wide alpine area of the Postalm, the distinctive stones of the Gamsfeld, the Jägersteig down to the Neualm and plenty of pinnacles more can be seen from here. You may have to consider a cold wind blowing down the Gamsfeld.

Your way back down brings you to the guidepost and the steep and stoney way leads you back to the Angerkaralm in one hour. The hiking trail shortens the the forest street.
When you get to the next marker you can choose to take the little path through the woods which ends at the parking lot. The other possibilty would be a walk along the forest street to the Rinnbergalm in twenty minutes. It is worth a visit! Two of the huts are open to the public during summer. The alpine cheese and the other local, tasty specialities and the wonderful view over the Dachstein make you relax and enjoy. The last bit of the way back down will take you 50 minutes until you get to the car.
