In June of 2006 and in January of 2007 a great storm destroyed the whole woods at the Hinterer Stausee. It is impressing to see the damage that the natural forces can cause.
From the Hintertal the steep path through the woods leeds to the Ebenalm at 1157 metres above the sea level, in an estimated 1 1/4 hours. Walking on further the path or the forest street bring you to the Gosausee in three 3/4 of an hour.
In the Hintertal, shortly after the guesthouse Herberge, just right infront of the guesthouse Gosauschmied there is a building owned by the Energie AG with a parking lot next to it. A wide trail leeds you up to the Stausee from this point. After the first ascent a narrow path turns left after about 10 minutes marked by a guidepost to the Ebenalm. This trail is marked consecutively.
It can be an upsurge partially but the trees spend some shade during your jouney.
3/4 of an hour later you will find yourself standing beneath a small rock face. You will habe the opportunity of an unique view down to the Hintertal and the Stausee, towards the Gamsfeld and over the Kalmberg mountains. Soon the path will take you through the wide Klamm and past a wooden well. Between the trees the vista of the Gosaukamm will expand. You could meet grazing cows at the Ebenalm. The trail ends at the forest street from the Gosausee finally. The guidepost shows its way to the Ebenalm which is open to the public in summer.

From the alp you can walk down a trail to the Gosausee. If you prefer to enjoy a veautiful panorama of the Gosaukamm, the Dachstein and the Gosausee you should choose the relaxing path down the forest street in about 45 minutes. The Gosausee invites its guests to take a break, enjoy the pubs and you can even go swimming in summer.
From this point it will just take you another 10 minutes until you reach the guesthouse at the Gosausee and the bus station of the Postbus.
There are stairs which take you down from the upper parking lot down to the next one. Then you cross the stream and get to the Hintertal in 45 minutes.
