Mountainbike Route Gosau - Plankenstein - Gosausee

Gosau - Plankensteinalm - Rossalm- driving back past Seekar/Modereck
to the Gosausee - Gosau.

In the wide area of the Plassen (1.953 m) and the Dachstein mountains you can find a couple of alps huts which are open to the public today still.
Forest streets and alpine roads are made accessible fort the bikers.
Some major points: A snack at the Rossalm (Liasnhütte) or at the Plankensteinalm (Woferlhütte or Leitgobhütte) invite every hiker or biker for a rest. The Ebenalm, situated on the way to the Gosausee, offers a great view besides a nice time to relax.

Altitude: an estimated 1.150 m
Highest point at 1.530 m
Time for journey: about four and a half hours
Paving: 2/3 of the route is formed by graveled streets, 1/3 of the road is made of tarmac, a few metres will leed along hiking trails.
 
Starting point:
Tourist information Gosau (760 m) – cross the Gosaubach – further to the left, past the Sporthotel – after about 500 m , turn right to get on the forest street to the Sattelgraben – to the left in the direction of the Brielgraben (780 m) – from this point you turn to the right, 5 km along the forest street until you get to the Schäfferalm(1.230 m) – on the left side you will find a street that leads you to the grindstone quarry, but you will drive straight ahead in the direction of the Grubalm – there is a short, steep road that leads you down – then you will get to the froest street which comes from the right side, from the Hintertal – go on straight ahead to the Grubalm(1.340 m) and in the direction of the Plankenstein, respectively the Rossalm. 5 km past the Grubalm again a forest street turns right to the alpine huts of the area of the Plankenstein (1.530 m). This region is definetely worth a side trip because of the wonderful nature and the overwhelming landscape.
If you do not choose to go to the Plankenstein region you will discover that the route up there is quite easy to manage which will take you 3 km to the Rossalm (1.387 m) Your journey goes on for 3 km until you get to the Schreieralm (1.370 m, only forest streets)
From this destination you drive back to the Grubalm (1.340 m). Now the road will get pretty steep, right at the crossing to the left in the direction of the Seekar/Modereck (1.430 m)
Finally you will be able to enjoy the beautiful panorama of Gosau.
The next part of the tour will bring you downwards. A nice and relaxed break at the Ebenalm (1.160 m) is possible still untill you get to the eastern shore of the Vorederer Gosausee (933 m) which winds up into the road which leads around the whole lake. (The road is made of tarmac here)
The final part of the route will bring you on along the local streets of the town, past the Stausee and the guesthouse Gosauschmied in the Hintertal. Just schortly after the bridge at the „Bäckensäge“ you will turn right to get to the Gosaubachweg. Eventually you will drive through the Mittertal and drive past the Sporthotel in order to get to the centre of the town at the tourist information, your starting point (760 m).
