Open-air museum Paarhof Gosau-Hintertal „Schmiedbauer"

The Home Association Gosau was capable of saving the Paarhof „Schmiedbauer“ and many other objects of the rustic cultural heritage of the Gosau valley.
It was funded and supported by many friends, professionals, the land of Upper Austria and the Federal Government.
It is due to Elisabeth and Hans vulgo Gamsjäger that these historic and precious objects were saved for the descendants.
The open-air museum was opened in Juli 2002 for the first time. Moreover it belongs to the  UNESCO Cultural heritage of the World landscape „Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut“.

The house „Schmiedbauer“ probably goes back to the 16th/17th century.
It is a typical Paarhof of this region and consists of an apartment and a barn next to it. In 1995 the building was pulled down bit by bit at its original location. With the result that it was rebuilt in June 1999 in the Hintertal.
There are a couple of smaller buildings on the museum grounds. An extension of the open-air museum is being planned.
